How to Find Fish Oil that Doesn’t Taste Like Fish … or Oil

Once, all fish oil tasted like … fish. The first use of fish oil was in the 1770’s when the English determined that cod from the New World had oil in the liver that could be used to treat arthritis. This was discovered when the fish were gutted and their insides thrown into the street. The oil that leaked out of the livers was collected and sold by enterprising souls as a “miracle cure.” This was the beginning of “cod liver oil.” As you can imagine, this oil was full of impurities, both from the cod, and from the street. And, anyone who has had the misfortune to taste cod liver oil knows what an unpleasant flavor it has.

Fish Oil: A Gift that Keeps on Giving!

Still, fish oil was valuable in that it unquestionably had medicinal and health benefits. Over time it was discovered that one of the main ingredients of natural fish oil was a class of polyunsaturated enriched fatty acids (EFA’s) called omega-3’s. These fatty acids were useful in maintaining bodily organ function, acting as anti-inflammatory agents, boosting the body’s autoimmune system, reducing cholesterol, delaying aging, and serving many other beneficial health functions.

In the 1980’s manufacturers began extracting oil from the bodies of fish rather than just from fish livers. But, the oil still tasted unpleasant. They then began selling the oil in soft gelatin capsules, which took away the taste when the capsule was swallowed.

Unfortunately, some time after the capsule was swallowed it opened in the stomach and then “repeated” on the swallower to give a fishy taste in the mouth, as well as a fishy breath. This was not attractive. Not only did fish oils have a bad taste to begin with, but also sitting on store shelves for unknown times exacerbated the problem due to aging. Because the fish oil caused burping, it became a “gift that kept on giving.” Some people were willing to take one or two capsules but a truly beneficial dose required as many as eight or more capsules. Few people were willing to ingest that many capsules and endure the after effects, so the fish oil craze faded.

Fish Oil Solution that Doesn’t have a "Repeat" Taste

However, now omega-3 fish oil finally has been discovered that does not taste like fish … or like oil! It’s called Calamarine. It is fish oil, but it’s derived from a special calamari, or squid, and not from cod or other fish. This unique calamari lives in the very cold and pristine waters off South American. Because these waters are so clean and the life cycle of this squid so short, the fish oil (omega-3’s) derived from them is extremely pure and clean, even before processing.  After processing and further purifying it’s even more pure, and has even higher potency.

And even better news, because the squid is so pure and fresh when it’s processed, the Calamarine omega-3 oil has no fishy taste - either in one’s mouth during ingestion or in one’s stomach after! What a breakthrough! Look for omega-3 containing all-natural supplements that are made with Calamarine so as to obtain the most pure and potent benefits of fish oil, with none of the “side effects” or unpleasantness associated with cod liver oil or general fish oil.

I was taking a fish oil supplement but was bothered by the fishy taste and the ‘repeating’ problems it gave me. I switched to Dr. Sinatra’s Omega Q Plus and those problems went away. I also feel better. I’m sold on Omega Q Plus.
